8 days trek through one of the wildest Thailand national park Tung Yai Naresuan, home of the ethnic Karen. this unique trek following the Thai-Burmese border allows us to cross the best preserved Thailand national park Tung Yai Naresuan on the Unesco world heritage list. The trails passes gorgeous nature: deep jungle, waterfalls, swaying bamboo bridges and fords. Very few wandering Buddhist monks use it as it’s very peaceful and therefore ideal for meditation. Every night we’ll sleep in a Karen village at the headman’s house. The town of Sangklaburi in Kanchanaburi province, best known for the bridge on the river Kwai, is our departure point from where we reach the entrance of the park. The trek ends in the little town of Umphang in Tak province further North. | Day 1: Bus Bangkok-Kanchanaburi- train along the river Kwai then bus to Sangklaburi close to the Burmese border. Night in a guest house by the lake. | D2: the hike starts at the gate of the park close to a Karen village(Sa Nae Pong), 9kms from the main road.Walk to Lai Wo through hanging bridge, jungle and paddy fields. |  | D3: Lai Wo- Ti Lai Pa through deep forest. The village of Ti Lai Pa (800m above sea level) is located in a wonderful setting of cliffs and crossed by a river. | | D4: Ti Lai Pa- Jakae via dirt road and trail. Magnificent jungle. | | D5: Jakae- River Suriya marking the border with Burma. Night in a house on stilt by the river. | D6: Jakae- Letongku. Short day walk through fields, streams and betel nuts plantations. | | D7: Full day in Letongku (210 m. above sea level) is the base of a millenarian order (read the article) that borrow widely from Buddhist imagery and belief, Christian prophecies and worship and ascetic guru. Visit of the temple sheltering carved ivory tusks. Lavish ceremonies at every phase of the moon. Waterfall nearby. Letongku is certainly the highlight of this trek. | | | | | worshippers at Letongku temple | | D8: Letongku-Boeng Kloeng through gentle hills, paddy fields, river and Karen hamlets. Road to Umphang.
